Hi all, does anyone know what the "normal" wcc is? I've just picked up my blood booklet and my wcc is now the lowest it has ever been! Huh

Hi

The normal values are between 4.0 - 11.0 but varies from person to person within that range. Are the white cell differentials all okay? Often the WCC will drop with the medication.

Hi lyn, the wc count is 3.7. I always skim over the results when i pick my booklet up and try a decipher the figures, but my last one read 3.9 and the one before that was 4.6. My GP hasn't contacted me but not sure whether to be concerened re the drop. Keep well, dawnybee

It's only just below the limit, but on two occasions! How often are your bloods done? Have you got the figures for neutrophils and lymphocytes? What meds are you on?

Personally I think I would be inclined to check with your GP as it seems to be following a downward trend and the 4.6 isn't exactly sparkling, although okay.

I only went on monthly in january. In may 09 when it was first recorded it was 7.6. Neutrophils are 63.1 previous 53.8 and i don't have a column for lymphocytes. I take mtx, folic acid and hydroxychloroquine. dawnybee

The neutrophil count seems fine (they kill and eat bacteria so important for an effective immune system). Possibly the Mtx is bringing the white count down so I think definitely worth getting it checked in case an adjustment to the meds is needed. They have acceptable ranges for a reason and yours has dipped twice so quite reasonable to ask a few questions.
Good luck,

Hi

I agree with Lyn.

I have often had very low counts whilst on mtx BUT it has always risen again. It's best to check with your GP to put your mind at rest.

Hi all, thanks for the replies. I rang the GPs today and the receptionist said he must have been happy with them because the result has been filed after viewing. It still seems a little bit odd, but at least he has seen it, and he must be happy with it. The last time, my GFR level went right down, he got me in very quickly. Thanx dawnybee
